Vehicle alternator

Are you having trouble starting your car, or are your electric components acting strangely? You might need an alternator repair from your Honda dealer. There are lots of signs that crop up when there’s an issue with the alternator, but they’re pretty easy to spot, so let’s go into some of them in detail below.

5 Signs You Need Alternator Repair from Your Honda Dealer

1. The Vehicle Won’t Start

If your car won’t start, then it’s either your battery or your alternator’s fault. There’s a relatively easy way to figure out which component is to blame. If you can jump-start the car and it stays on, then you’re probably having battery issues and should get that checked out. If you jump-start the car and it switches off again not long afterward, then the alternator is most likely the problem.

2. The Vehicle Is Stalling

Stalling is never normal, and it’s usually a sign that you have a faulty battery, alternator, or spark plug. If your alternator is the problem, then your car is stalling because the alternator isn’t converting chemical energy into electrical energy to get your battery charged up, causing the engine to stop suddenly. You should visit the dealer for a checkup to get the problem fixed as soon as you can.

3. The Vehicle Is Having Electrical Failures

If the alternator isn’t charging the battery effectively, then there won’t be enough power in the battery to keep all the car’s electrical components juiced up. Any electrical component can start having issues when this happens.

It’s common for the headlights to dim if the alternator is having issues, and you also might have trouble with the radio/infotainment system. Power up/down windows, power-adjustable seats, heated/ventilated seats, and many more features may also stop working properly when the alternator needs to be repaired.

4. The Vehicle Has a Burning Smell

A burning smell in the cabin is never normal, and it’s usually caused by one of the car’s components overheating. It can also be caused by the alternator belt slipping. Regardless of the cause, you should pull over when you smell a burning odor and wait at least a half hour before you drive again. If the smell persists, then you should call a tow truck to take you to the dealer just in case the alternator or another component is overheating.

5. The Vehicle’s Check Engine Light Comes on

Modern cars have an array of warning lights that show up on the dash when there’s a problem under the hood. In Honda vehicles, a light in the shape of an engine will usually pop up if there’s a problem with the alternator.
